Corolla Aug 15, 2013 Corolla is a good spot to visit if you’re in the OBX area. There’s plenty of great food and ample things to see. Kristin and I visited on our third day. Unfortunately we went smack-dab in the middle of the day, so the whole town was crowded with tourists. We still enjoyed the sites around Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the nearby Whalehead Club. While it is less than $10 to climb the lighthouse, by the time we arrived the line was tremendous. ...
Kitty Hawk Aug 10, 2013 I just arrived home from a wonderful vacation in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Kristin and I treated ourselves to an oceanfront room right at the entryway to the outer banks. We did what we intended - explored the local places to eat and hung out on the beach. Nothing more, nothing less! The weather cooperated for the most part, and I was able to try about five different coffee places. ...
A Panoramic Tour of Skyline Drive Jul 29, 2013 Don’t have time to travel to Virginia to see Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park? No problem, I have you covered! This past Friday I took the day off to make the drive with my dog by my side. I recorded the entire trip with a Nikon D5100 and my handy-dandy Panosaurus tripod head. From 7:30 AM until 2 PM I was out shooting and enjoying the sights in the rolling hills of the Applachians. ...
Brambleton Farmer's Market Jul 07, 2013 It always feels good to purchase locally. You get some fresh food and you help out small businesses. This weekend we went to the farmer’s market at Brambleton in search of our favorite salsa by Chef Eloy. Seriously, get some if you can! On the way out we spotted a fruit stand with the biggest blackberries I have ever seen. The camera at my side had been dormant, but I just had to record these beauties. ...
A couple more from Meadowlark Jul 05, 2013 Here’s a couple more from Meadowlark. I didn’t take the time to record what kind of flowers these are, unfortunately. Layla and Kristin (but mostly Layla) were moving too fast!
Caprese Salad Jul 05, 2013 Kristin makes a mean caprese salad. These poor guys didn’t stand a chance in our household. Oh yes, they will be mine.
Ladybug at Meadowlark Gardens Jul 05, 2013 If you ever feel surrounded by concrete in Fairfax County, VA, do yourself a favor and visit Meadowlark Gardens. There’s lots of good foliage to be seen and it is just off the main drag (Lee Highway/Rt. 7). If you have a macro lens or attachment, be sure to bring it - you’ll have ample opportunity to record some beauties! A ladybug chills out at Meadowlark Gardens
Cherry Blossoms Jul 04, 2013 We’re now into the full-on heat of summer. It makes me think back to spring, when the mornings are still crisp and the breezes are enjoyable. Oh, and the cherry blossoms…everywhere! Taken in isolation they are quite beautiful. They just don’t seem as beautiful when they are literally carpeting my front porch. Cherry Blossom!
Sunset at Weverton Cliffs Jul 02, 2013 I don’t often get a chance to see a sunset quite as stunning as this one. Just around the corner from Harper’s Ferry, and yet it feels so isolated. By nightfall the cars on the highway nearby have dulled in sound and you can hear the wildlife taking precedence. The sun sets over Weverton Cliffs
San Diego Jun 22, 2013 I just got back from San Diego for the Data Governance and Information Quality (DGIQ) conference. It was a fantastic time full of both brain-filling lectures and beatiful weather. I didn’t get too much time to wander around (the conference was from 8-5:30 every day), but I did snap off a good number of photos as we walked back and forth to dinner or the conference itself. I don’t feel like writing a long-hand post, so I’ll just jot down a couple of things to note/remember: ...
