Flowers Near the House

I always walk by these flowers when I’m out with my daughter around the neighborhood, so the other day I decided to take advantage of the even lighting to grab some photos of them before they are gone. The colors really wow me and I think my extension tubes did a good job of capturing the stunning detail.

Harper’s Ferry is one of my favorite places to visit. I was in a rush to grab dinner before everything shut down the last time I was there, so I wasn’t able to grab very many sunset shots. I went back out this weekend to get a few more.
One broken pane of glass
Although I couldn’t make it up to the top of Maryland Heights for the shot that I really wanted (that one will have to wait), I was able to capture some of the incredible light hitting the area as the sun went down.

This is another glance at the patch of Pickett’s charge. A different picture emerges today in the area where so much metal flew through the air long ago.

I did something I hadn’t done before on this past weekend’s trip to Gettysburg battlefield: I walked the line of Pickett’s charge! I find it unbelievable that thousands of troops walked this path in the direct line of fire of lots of artillery directly to their front. No wonder they were decimated! Walking this same path well over a century later I still felt exposed and vulnerable.

Umpstead Park

While visiting a friend in Raleigh he recommended two different sites for me to shoot. The first place was Umpstead Park, located about five minutes away from his house. We woke up early to catch the good light there. A short walk down a hiking path led us to a huge, calm lake. I eyed the walkway and the main entrance area for immersive panos. Here are the results!
