Corolla is a good spot to visit if you’re in the OBX area. There’s plenty of great food and ample things to see. Kristin and I visited on our third day. Unfortunately we went smack-dab in the middle of the day, so the whole town was crowded with tourists. We still enjoyed the sites around Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the nearby Whalehead Club.
While it is less than $10 to climb the lighthouse, by the time we arrived the line was tremendous. It looked like over an hour wait, so we simply enjoyed the site of it from the exterior. Maybe my legs silently thanked me for not
Nearby there is a fishing/crabbing pier that offers a view back to the lighthouse through the thick, non-native foliage (we read something about a particular plant taking over the area). You can look out over the sound from some extremely shallow water, where the birds love searching for their dinners.
